Gas meter deducting debt that isn't mine - 'B3' error message - what is this?

Watch out for those error codes!

The last 2 times I tried to top up my gas meter it constantly takes debt I don't owe, the remaining money goes to emergency and there is no available credit. When I try to activate my emergency credit I don't get the option or can see my emergency balance it just displays "B3"

The debt is too large to be the standing charge and I'm not paying a previous tenant's debt so I'm wondering what the problem is?

I'm posting here to try and find out what the potential problem is before calling so I don't spend long on the phone as I have little temper left with this company.

That error message means we need to sort out a new gas card for you. To get this arranged (and to work out how much debt you've paid that needs refunding to you), please pop us a message on Facebook or Twitter.

So moved into a new house and it had debt on it(£15.60). Topped up both gas and electric so I could live and phoned up and spoke to boost employee Gave me a code for reset of the debit. Now I had cleared debit with my own money and had £25 on electric and £20 on gas on the day I moved in. Today I've used the code I have received and its completely reset my electric and put all my power out. So trip to the shop for another £10. Basically the question is that the employee told me the local shop has the £15. 60 ready for me to have back on my electric but they didn't have it and reset the "debt" so that it doesn't owe anything and reset all the electric and now I'm out of pocket of £40.60 and would appreciate a way of getting this money back. I'm stuck on what to do apart from sitting in a phone cue waiting on hold..... Thanks everyone.

Hi @Michaelg - I've moved your post over onto this topic about removing debt.

We need to get you set up with an account of our own, and then we can wipe any debt from the previous occupants. If this totals over £50, we may ask for a photo of your Tenancy Agreement.

Current wait time on the phone is 3 mins!
