**UPDATE on 12/08/2019 - This trial is now closed**

How would you like to be one of the first customers to have a brand spanking new, second-generation smart meter? We’ll be offering a handful of lucky customers the opportunity to have the new model of smart meter installed in their property, and the best part is, it’s completely free of charge!

The second generation smart meters (also known as SMETS2 meters) have upgraded technology, improving things like signal strength, but the most important part is that they’ll be universal. This means if you want to switch to another supplier, you won’t have to worry about getting a new smart meter installed, they’ll simply connect to it wirelessly with no interruptions!

If you’re interested in getting one of these in your house, there are a few criteria that you’ll need to meet:

  • You need to be based in Southern England or the Midlands. If you're not sure if your region counts but you meet the other criteria, leave a comment below and we'll PM you to check.
  • You need to be on a single rate meter. If you have Economy 7, meaning you get a cheaper night rate, we wouldn’t be able to install these meters at the moment.
  • You can’t have storage heaters. The smart meters aren’t yet compatible with storage heaters.
  • Your gas meter can’t be in a brown box in the ground (semi concealed). This is because the boxes aren’t big enough to house the meters in. If you’re unsure of this, send us a picture and we’ll be able to confirm this.
If you tick all the boxes above, and you’re keen to get going with the new generation, let us know by dropping a comment here, and we’ll send you a PM to let you know if you’re one of the chosen ones!

@tobias_b maybe this would tempt you to join?...

@Diane Flower and @Tam75,

Whilst this particular trial has finished, we'll be predominantly installing these 2nd generation smart meters over the next month, as an extended trial.

If you're interested in getting one installed, just follow this link to book an appointment.

Thanks,
Ed
